What gets checked

Your property assessment

Whether your assessment is out of line with comparable properties, or with the record the county holds on your own home.

Depends on: Your assessment, your lot and building size, and what similar properties nearby are assessed at.
How often: Every year — assessments are re-set on a cycle, so a win is not permanent.

Exemptions you have not claimed

Homestead, senior, veteran, disability and other reductions that are yours by law and are simply not applied until somebody applies for them.

Depends on: Who lives in the home, their age, service history and disability status, and the state.
How often: Usually once — most stay applied, though some need renewing.

Mortgage insurance you no longer owe

PMI you can cancel once your equity crosses the threshold. Lenders are obliged to drop it automatically at a later point than the point you can ask for it.

Depends on: Your original price, current balance, and what the home is worth now.
How often: Once — and then it is gone for good.

Homeowners insurance premium

Whether the premium is high for the dwelling cover in your state, and which structural discounts are commonly missed.

Depends on: Your dwelling cover, deductible and premium, against the benchmark for your state.
How often: Every renewal.

Energy supply rate

In a deregulated market, whether the supply rate is above what the market offers. In a regulated one, this is not switchable and the page says so rather than wasting your time.

Depends on: Your rate per kWh or therm, and whether your state and utility allow switching at all.
How often: Every contract term.

Energy, honestly

Most of the United States cannot switch energy supplier. Where you can, the saving is real and repeats every contract term; where you cannot, no amount of shopping helps and this tool will tell you so instead of collecting your details.

What this does not tell you

There is no average saving quoted on this page. What a household saves depends on their policy, their supplier and which exemptions they are missing — a single headline figure would be marketing, not arithmetic. Put your own numbers in and the audit computes the answer from them, showing the working, the same way the appeal does.
